Statistics Portfolio - Projects

Macy’s Customer Statistics, SJSU, Spring 2007
On a team of two (Dennis Pan, Aleksy Jozefowicz), used statistics to determine on average if women spend more money than men while shopping at Macy’s in Valley Fair Mall.  Successfully interviewed up to 30 customers to retrieve sample data, which is then input into the statistical software R.  Prepared a 7-page report using MS Word and charts from R, revealing that the average money spent between the sexes is not significantly different, concluding that Macy’s should not operate under the assumption that women spend more than men.  Received an “A” grade on the project, for Math 161B.

CIE Membership Website Project, September 2010 - Present
CIE stands for "Chinese Institute of Engineers," a non-profit association for Chinese scientists or engineers in the US.  The team is composed of Dennis Pan, Larry Wong, Didi Xie, and Vivian Liu.  The aim of the project is to create a webpage for about 2000 CIE members to access, with the following features: (1) the database program of the webpage allows members to setup account name and passward, and provide information such as sex, age group, technical areas, and telephone; (2) allow members to choose groups they want to join while group and chapter officers have authority to manage databases of their groups or chapters.  For experimentation, I used "HotDoodle" to create an experimental CIE website with members log-in.
